Two bats taken in by Salina Animal Shelter workers this month tested positive for rabies, but that’s not unusual, the shelter’s director said.

Still, said Rose Base, it’s a reminder to dog and cat owners why keeping their pets’ vaccinations up to date is important.

One of the bats was found lying dead in the yard of a house. The other was found at a home in a sink. The occupants put a board over the sink to trap it and called the animal shelter, Base said.
